What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a facial procedure that uses manual exfoliation to remove the over layer of skin. This process work in a series to achieve the best results. We use a Diamond tipped and to abrade the surface of the skin.

What happens in the treatment?

Your skin will be cleansed with a cleanser appropriate to your skin type. We will then follow with the microdermabrasion wand smoothly over your skin, we will then tone the skin, apply a hydrating mask followed by a treatment serum and moisturiser, completing yo treatment with an SPF.

What will Microdermabrasion do for my skin?

Overall, microdermabrasion will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, remove acne scares, clear up blackheads, minimise the size of pores, reduce sun damage, and even out the skin tone. microdermabrasion also helps to boost collagen production to provide firming and toning to the completion.

Is there any downtime after a treatment?

Microdermabrasion is a safe and gentle procedure with no downtime. The client will need to protect his or her skin with moisturiser and sunblock for 48 hours after treatment and may experience mild redness and sloughing/peeling. However, the client can return back to work immediately, which is why many clients prefer having microdermabrasion treatments on their lunch breaks since there is no downtime.

How many treatments do I need?

When it comes to microdermabrasion, one treatment will not provide instant results. That is why it is important to have a series of microdermabrasion treatments, 3-6 are recommended for best results. These can be spaced a week apart, and from that point, the client can continue to receive one treatment on a monthly basis for the best maintenance.

How does Microdermabrasion treatment work on the skin?

The thickens of the epidermis is increased because new cells are being produced more rapidly and the cells themselves are larger and healthier. Then cells of the lower layers of the epidermis are knitted tighter in a more consistent “basket weave” configuration, instead of a haphazard arrangement. The barrier function of the epidermis is disrupted for the 24-48 hours causing the skin to be drier than usual.

During the cell reproduction of the cells fibroblasts that make up collagen fibres are increased and are thicker more tightly packed and more organised. The number of elastic fibres also increased and they are oriented vertically instead of horizontally giving dermal layer more “spring”.

What is the difference between Crystal and Diamond Microdermabrasion?

The regular crystal microdermabrasion technology involves the use of a special, hand held device that propels high speed flow of aluminium oxide crystals onto the skin. The wand tip is made of natural laser cut diamond chips which polish the skin and remove dead cells, which are then vacuumed back into the waste filter. Natural minerals are less likely to trigger adverse reactions.

Does Microdermabrasion hurt?

No, if your treatment is uncomfortable in anyway, your therapist will reduce the power.

How long will the results last?

Skin cells are continually dying and shedding and this will continue after treatment. Your results will last several weeks until the dead layer has built up again but this will vary between individuals.

Is Microdermabrasion right for me?

Those with broken facial veins, rosacea or very sensitive skin may not be suitable for treatment.
