Scarring

Scarring

Scarring occurs as a result of the skin's healing process following injuries, surgery, or conditions such as severe acne, particularly cystic acne. When the skin attempts to repair itself, it can produce too much or too little collagen, leading to the formation of scars. Scars can vary in type, depth, and appearance:

Atrophic Scars: Depressions or indentations in the skin, commonly resulting from acne. These are further classified as:
  • Ice Pick Scars: Deep, narrow scars.
  • Boxcar Scars: Broad, rectangular depressions
  • Rolling Scars: Wave-like depressions in the skin
Hypertrophic Scars: Raised scars that remain within the boundaries of the injury or acne lesion, caused by excess collagen production.

Keloid Scars: A more severe form of hypertrophic scars that extend beyond the original site of the injury or acne and may continue to grow over time
